Many of your questions will be answered here...

Who Can I Trust with My Wedding Gown?

Ask yourself this question.   After all the hours you spent searching, exploring, researching, and trying on wedding gowns before you found the perfect one, are you really willing to put your trust in the closest place with the lowest price?  What sense does that make?

Just as there are specialists in every profession so it is with seamstresses.  Some seamstresses are great with pant hems and shortening sleeves, others are great at repairs.  Bridal seamstresses have the experience and expertise of working with the many different designers and fabrics that bridal gowns are made of.   For this reason a bridal seamstress is best prepared to alter your gown for a better fit than someone who only sometimes works on a wedding gown.  I personally have worked with a wide variety of designer gowns from Vera Wang, Monique Lhuillier, Badgley Mischka, Kenneth Pool, and Melissa Sweet to, Sottero and Midgley to name only a few, and fabrics from silk charmeuse to chiffon, lace and satin.

Often the importance of your seamstress is overlooked; your bridal seamstress is the critical link to making you look your best on your wedding day.

Remember, you absolutely MUST have trust and confidence in your seamstress’s abilities!

What will Alterations Cost Me?

In my experience as a professional bridal seamstress I have never understood why most brides never figure in the cost of their alterations into their budget for their wedding gown. To add to a bride’s dismay, most brides have never had a garment altered, let alone one of the most expensive garments they will ever wear!

The price of bridal alterations can fluctuate drastically depending on the type of dress you have, the number of layers, and the fabric of your gown. Not to mention the total time needed to alter, add-to, or customize your dress. The cost of these same factors can vary widely from one seamstress to another. Be warned ladies, never trust your gown to a seamstress or tailor that says they will do all alterations for considerably less than what you have been quoted. Consider getting a written quote.  I do not tack on charges at the end that have not been discussed with the bride before hand.

Can I Get a Quote Over the Phone?

I am frequently asked this question and for any real professional the answer should be "NO". While, based on your description of the dress, a seamstress can give you a ballpark figure there is no way to accurately estimate the total cost of your alterations without physically seeing the dress. Matching manufacturer hemlines, seeing the bead and lace layout, and understanding the number of layers the dress has are all things your bridal seamstress needs to see in order to give an accurate estimate. Remember, you are paying for a service from an expert and that expert must be able to assess the job in order to accurately quote it.

When Should I Schedule my Alterations?

The best time to call your bridal seamstress to begin scheduling your alteration appointments is when you first get your gown.  This ensures your getting an appointment with the bridal seamstress of your preference.  Together we can determine the best time to start the alterations.
